About Unowe

Unowe is a free, private debt-payoff and investment planner built for borrowers in India. The name is simply un-owe — to stop owing. That is the whole aim of the tool: to get you to the month where you owe nothing, sooner than your EMIs alone would manage.

What it does

You enter your loans, income and expenses. Unowe sequences every loan and card by interest rate, works out how much to send at principal each month, sizes an emergency fund, and allocates whatever surplus remains across equity, debt, gold and liquid buckets.

  • A debt-avalanche prepayment plan, with prepayment penalties and lock-ins handled honestly
  • Prepay versus invest break-even, including the §24b deduction cap most calculators ignore
  • Old versus new tax regime for FY 2026-27, with the §87A and surcharge marginal relief applied
  • A monthly progress log, and a PDF report that doubles as a backup of your plan

Why it keeps your figures on your device

Financial detail is about as sensitive as personal data gets, and the safest place to put it is somewhere nobody can be breached out of. Your balances, income and loans are encrypted with AES-256-GCM in your own browser, using a key derived from your password. The server holds your email and a password hash so you can sign in — nothing else. There are no third-party trackers and no analytics.

The honest trade-off: because nothing is stored on a server, nobody can recover your plan for you if you lose both your password and your recovery key. That is why the tool pushes you to export a PDF or JSON backup, and why it refuses to sign you out when an edit has not been saved.

What it is not

Unowe is an educational planning and calculation tool. It is not a registered investment adviser, is not SEBI- or IRDAI-registered, and does not provide personalised financial advice. It does not hold your money, move your money, or connect to your bank. Every figure it shows is arithmetic on the numbers you typed in, and you should check anything material against your own lender's terms before acting on it.

What it costs

The planner is free and stays free. A one-time ₹199 unlocks the PDF report and the premium modules. There is no subscription, no upsell and no advertising — which is also why there is no incentive here to steer you toward any particular product.
